Check Your Line
Use the tools and guidance below to find out if you have a lead service line.
Check Your Address
Use the map below to look up your address in our records and learn if you might have a lead service line. Use the search bar at the top-right corner of the map.
On a mobile device? Use the full screen app.
Can’t find your address? Please be sure you have entered it correctly in the search tool. If your address is not represented on the map or no instructions are provided, then our records indicate this address is not associated with a Trenton Water Works account. Please contact us if you have any questions (609-989-3600 or twwleadprogram@trentonnj.org).
Test Your Line
To find out if you have a copper, lead or galvanized steel water service line on your property, you (or your landlord) can perform a Materials Verification Test. Perform the test on the service line between the wall and where it connects to the water meter to determine the material of the water service line on your property.
Please follow the steps below, and then send us the test results, your address, and a photo of your service line using the online survey. We will update our records with the information you provide.
WHAT YOU NEED
A house key, coin, flathead screwdriver, or paint scraper
A strong refrigerator magnet
Steps to Check Your Service Line
Find the water meter on your property located in your basement or utility closet. The water meter is either brass or white plastic.
Look for the pipe that comes through the outside wall of your home and connects to your meter.
Use a house key, coin, flathead screwdriver, or paint scraper to scratch the pipe, exposing the metal.
Place the magnet against the pipe and see if it sticks.
Compare your findings to the results below. Be sure to take a photo of the water meter and the pipe going into the wall and send us your results using the online survey.
